I do not consider having a tag for this a useful idea:
We already have a list of canonical Q&As on Meta. For frequent close voters this is a better resource than a tag, because it can be structured, curated, etc. Just save it as a favourite.
The proposed tag is a meta tag. It thus confuses automatisms based on tagging (which assume a connection of topic)...
I'd support burning this tag to the ground. Suggested replacements:
Some unholy hybrid of changing-fields, career-path etc. Just "selecting a field of study" is almost broad enough to be useless.
exams (which we already have) or if we really felt like we needed a new one, exam-prep?
study-design, which in my mind should also pretty much auto-flag a question ...
I like the tag. I would like to see more representation from the humanities on Academia.SE and a tag is a nice way of showing how welcome this would be.
I have a few comments about its implementation.
About the tag wiki excerpt: The other 'displine' tags typically say,
On standards or conventions specific to X as an academic discipline, and programs ...
There is an existing tag synonym proposal for those, with a current score of -1. Users who have an opinion on this are invited to vote on the tag synonym.
