This question already has an answer here:

I've just noticed that comments have been removed from this question :

Do authors have to be politically correct in article-writing?

I posted 2 comments, and agree that 1 should have been moved to chat. And not deleted, as I don't believe any academia.stackoverflow rules were broken.

My second comment was a partial reply, which in my opinion only addresses part of the question, and doesn't warrant an answer.

I intentionly split the "discussion" from the valid "comment".

I saw at least 1 other user do this.

Today I notice that all the comments were deleted and not moved to chat.

Isn't this overboard reaction to this question/comments? Did somebody "revenge" flag those "valid" comments?

This question has been asked before and already has an answer. If those answers do not fully address your question, please ask a new question.

  • I closed your question because the duplicate completely explains the comment deletion in your case. This only makes sense in light of information that is now only visible to moderators (but you should also know), but then this question can only be answered by moderators anyway. – Wrzlprmft Feb 28 at 7:54
  • In this case I believe the "essential" comment falls into the category: - You do not expect anybody to reply to your comment. And nobody did. Can I post that comment again, or will be deleted again... Essentially I just want to leave some (maybe valuable) information for future readers. So what is the ideal action? – Robert Andrzejuk Feb 28 at 11:30
  • @RobertAndrzejuk - Sorry for the inconvenience! Two issues: (1) Comments can only be moved to chat once; after that, it's just deletion. (2) More specific to this post, there have been a lot of "try this naming convention" answers/comments already. That falls under "answering in comments", which we delete. I left the comments there while the discussion was still going, but after a few days I cleared it all out. This is common on "Hot Network Question" answers. Sorry that you got caught in the collateral damage! – eykanal Feb 28 at 12:52
  • Essentially I just want to leave some (maybe valuable) information for future readers. So what is the ideal action? – If your information addresses the question, post an answer. Otherwise, post it in chat. If somebody really cares, they can look at the chatroom. – Wrzlprmft Feb 28 at 17:02
  • @eykanal ad1) the "valuable" comment was not "chatter" that's why I added it. According to the duplicate, out of the 3 last bullet points I believe my comment fits in the first 2. But not the last one 😉 so I'll just leave this issue as it is. Thanks for the answers. – Robert Andrzejuk Mar 1 at 8:19
